Segment composition, intent and technical conditions can change what a funnel appears to say.

A funnel highlights where people leave, but it does not explain why. A sudden fall between verification and profile setup could reflect unclear copy, an upstream tracking error, low-intent traffic or a technical issue affecting a subset of devices.

Before redesigning a screen, verify event order and completeness. Compare cohorts by app version, operating system, acquisition source and new versus returning status. Review session evidence or user feedback where consent and privacy controls allow it. The goal is to distinguish product friction from measurement noise.

Prioritise an intervention when the affected step blocks meaningful value, the segment matters commercially and the team has evidence that the change can address the cause. This turns a visually dramatic chart into a grounded product decision.
